Sentimentality is feeling emotion for something that you've got no real reason to feel it for. That's why they call it the unending emotion. It requires people to love or care for something that really has no effect in their lives. When you care about a cat, that cat isn't going to dictate any of your choices or the direction in which your life is going. It won't ever matter in the future. But like all sentimental people, they must be cruel. Both come with a nature of understanding.
